– Our Story –

Co-founders Chris, Matt and Tony first met in 2000 living in the same halls of residence at Uni. On a night out in 2011 they started to discuss an idea … a light-touch way for businesses to quickly gather and analyse a regular pulse of client happiness.

In 2012 an early version of The Happiness Index was introduced to a company as a pilot and results over the following 12 months were phenomenal; client retention was the highest it had ever been, client relationships were stronger than ever and record revenues were achieved. So fuelled by the success of measuring client happiness the technology was expanded to measure the happiness of staff. Here too results were fantastic – employee retention increased, the company were able to maintain their culture whilst achieving rapid growth and the increased productivity meant their revenues continued to break records.

By 2014, The Happiness Index was launched successfully into the open market. Today we’re gathering responses from across the globe and helping a broad range of brand name clients to effectively measure and improve their employee and customer satisfaction and engagement.

CEO and Co-Founder of The Happiness Index – Tony is passionate about helping organisations utilise technology to revolutionise the way they use feedback. With 15 years’ experience of growing companies, Tony has a wealth of experience. His insights were recently featured in The Sunday Times for an article on what drives engagement in today’s workplaces, he regularly speaks at HR events, such as the CIPD’s annual conference and sits on judging panels for various business awards. His expertise in the world of business, HR and technology recently led to The Happiness Index being awarded the title of “Best New Business” at the European Business Awards 2018.


Prior to The Happiness Index Patrick had 8 years’ experience in recruitment, sales and account management across the entertainment, health, tech, sport and financial sectors. As such he’s seen first-hand the importance of actively listening to and acting on the feedback received from staff and clients in order to improve cultural engagement, loyalty and performance in the workplace.


Tim has extensive experience in Sales, Marketing, and Insight across the Media and Food & Drink. He spent 7 years at the BBC leading the strategic and marketing direction of Radio 5 Live and launching new digital radio stations. He spent 8 years running business units and commercial teams at Innocent Drinks, Lindt & Sprungli, and Hovis. Since then, he has helped smaller companies create and implement fast growth commercial plans.


Passionate about the positive impact employee happiness has on productivity Sasha has more than ten years’ experience working in B2B marketing and digital. Helping her last company grow from 20 to 180 people in just 5 years, while maintaining culture and a happy team, resulted in them being voted in the Sunday Times Top 100 Best Companies to Work For four times.


Matt is responsible for product development and innovation. Matt has always worked in Data and Analytics space and studied AI and Machine Learning. He has spoken at a number of conferences in the Data and Analytics space and was recently featured in Google Analytics Breakthrough for innovative use of Analytics to integrate off and online data.


Co-founding a digital marketing agency in 2008 and helping it achieve growth to 70 employees in just under 8 years, Chris became obsessed with getting the best out of people and tried many initiatives to give employees a great experience. This then planted an idea about generating immediate cultural insight through a feedback platform – The Happiness Index!


Matthew has a huge passion for all things marketing and business. He is active in the start-up community and a lover of new technology developments.


Benn is an experienced CFO and Chairman with a passion for exciting, fast growing businesses. He believes in the value that people can create in business. He has held roles in YSC (the Global Leadership Consultancy) as Finance Director and also Rekoop, a SaaS tech business within the Legal Sector with whom he was Chairman.


Roma has extensive experience in data analysis and relationship-building. Previously working at HP – she excelled at telling stories through data to bring it to life and add context. Prior to this, she worked in the hospitality sector where she honed her customer service and people skills in a fast-paced environment.


Chris has an MSc in Occupational Psychology and has extensive experience with statistics and data handling. Previously working at Great Place to Work UK as an Evaluator, he understands what it takes to run a successful engagement programme.


Clive is an experienced executive coach, with a previous career in HR and as a corporate CEO for Pink Roccade where he oversaw revenue growth from £10m to £70m in 5 years. Also the COO of Ericsson (which went on to become Sony Ericsson) for 11 years – Clive has a wealth of insight into a company’s greatest asset – its people.
